C2PA is a technical standard for recording provenance around digital media. It gives compatible tools a way to carry and inspect information about where a file came from and what happened to it.
A record, not a verdict
Content credentials can describe origin, edits and authenticity signals. That makes a media file less anonymous as it moves between cameras, apps, feeds and exports. They are useful evidence, not a magical declaration that every image is true or every creator is trustworthy.
Why provenance matters now
When synthetic media can look convincing, detection alone leaves people guessing after distribution. Provenance changes the question from “does this look real?” to “what is known about this file, its source and its journey?” That is a more useful starting point for creators, audiences and partners.
